We are happy to invite you to the fifth annual conference of NORBIS, the national research school in bioinformatics, biostatistics and systems biology. Join us there for great talks by international experts and PhD candidates, poster sessions, team building activities and an opportunity to build your network and hang out with a great group of people sharing many of your interests.

Dates: September 30 – October 2, 2019

Venue: Oscarsborg fortress, Drøbak

Registration is closed

Full program can be found here

Invited speakers:

  • Jukka Corander (University of Oslo) on How do bacterial pathogen populations evolve in reality? A couple of recent lessons learnt from population genomics can bring us new and better vaccines.
  • Kjetill Sigurd Jakobsen (University of Oslo) on The Earth Biogenome Project – a moonshot for mankind, and some computational challenges
  • Sushma Grellscheid (University of Bergen) on Computational Modelling of Stress-Triggered Cytoplasmic Phase Separation

Student talks and posters

We invite master students, PhD students and post-docs to present their research project during the annual meeting. This is a great opportunity to get feedback from fellow students and group leaders within bioinformatics, biostatistics and systems biology. The talks will be of a duration of 12 minutes with additional 3 minutes time for questions and discussion. We will arrange a feedback comittee for each session. As we have a limited number of sessions available for student talks during the meeting, we will select 10-12 of them and expect that the rest will bring a poster instead. We will have two poster sessions, with a prize for the best poster.

The conference is open for everyone. We cover travel and accommodation costs for all PhD students, while master students and post docs can apply for support by emailing contact-norbis@uib.no. We also want to encourage supervisors and other researchers to join our meeting, both to facilitate discussion across several levels of experience, to inspire our students, and to increase your own national network.

About the conference

The NORBIS school organises an annual conference for all members. The conference aims at bringing together students and researchers, fostering collaboration between groups. The participants will learn about each others’ research, discuss science, be inspired by keynotes from leading researchers, and improve their scientific network. In particular the meeting gives an opportunity for the students to work on their presentation skills as each student gets feedback on his / her presentation from an appointed panel.
